All I wanted for Xmas was a dead Tilapia from this website!
As a true fan of the Salton Sea who appreciates the past, shakes his head and smiles at the present, and sits on the sideline (a member of the silent majority) hoping that one day, the Salton Sea will rise again, I in fact did get the one present from my wife that I asked for - the dead tilapia!
Its exactly as pictured and when I opened the package containing it, it was all that I hoped it would be! My dead Tilapia is now mounted in my home office along side of all the celebrities I've ever met in my life!
Tilapia were not yet introduced to the sea when I was a child of a family that spent frequent weekends and vacations camping at Corvina Beach on the North Shore. As I grew up , so did the tilapia population. It use to freak me out when I would be swimming in the sea and feel one of those suckers nibbling on my leggs! I guess they couldn't see any further in the water than I!
Years later after I was married, I took my wife to this beautiful place I remembered as a child and experienced my first tilapia die off at the sea. No sooner then we had set up camp, all the while hoping the smell would go away, then we packed it up and headed for Joshua Tree where we wer just out of the range of the stench!
I still love the Salton Sea and will remember it always for what it was, and not what it is.
Anyway, got my dead tilapia as a fond memory and I love it! I only wish it came with a small bottle of "stench" so I could spay it in the air when my friends come to visit so they may too, experience the full effect of the dead tilapia!
Thank you Salton Sea Emporium, and thank you to my wife, Mary Claire Tiffany, for going above and beyond to satisfy your husbands happieness, and his wierd sense of art!
Your loving husband,
Mike
