The beaches of the Salton Sea are quite different than your typical tropical paradise. Rather than white sand and coconuts, the beaches of the Salton Sea are covered with a thick layer of barnacles and bones. Now you can capture your own little piece of the Salton Sea, with this glass tube of Salton Sea shoreline. It is filled with colorful Salton Sea barnacles, along with several fish and bird bones. Preserved in alcohol and securely sealed in a thick glass tube with cork and adhesive, this delightful conversation piece is perfect for any office or home.
The barnacles were inadvertately brought to the Sea by military seaplanes. They would attach themselves to the floats of the planes while they were landing on the ocean. Then when they would fly to the Sea, the barnacles would be accidently imported to this fertile inland marine ecosystem. The barnacles have since grown out of control and since there are few piers to attach themselves to, the barnacles float free in the Sea. Now the beaches look like this:
